About
The Nigel Farage “What’s Happened?” AI Adverts refer to a series of AI-generated images and videos that began appearing on X (formerly Twitter) in June 2026.
The advertisements typically depicted Nigel Farage involved in bizarre, dramatic or violent confrontations, often on what appeared to be a television set resembling BBC Question Time, a political discussion programme in the United Kingdom.
The adverts were usually accompanied by vague captions such as “What’s happened?” or “You won’t believe this”, encouraging users to click through to external websites. The campaign quickly gained attention due to the sheer frequency with which users encountered the adverts, leading many to joke that they were seeing them multiple times per day.
The phenomenon evolved into a meme as X users began sharing reaction posts, screenshots and videos documenting their repeated encounters with the advertisements.
Origin
The advertisements began circulating widely on X during early June 2026.
Many of the images featured AI-generated scenes showing Nigel Farage kicking, punching or arguing with public figures, including fictional depictions of confrontations with financial and political figures. The images were often accompanied by intentionally vague captions designed to generate curiosity.
Reports later emerged that many of the advertisements were linked to online investment scams that used fake news articles and AI-generated content to attract clicks.
As more users encountered the adverts, discussion shifted away from the advertisements themselves and towards the unusual fact that seemingly everyone was being shown them.
Spread
By June 2026, screenshots of the advertisements had spread across X, Reddit and other social media platforms.
Many users reported seeing the adverts repeatedly throughout the day regardless of their interests or browsing habits. The phrase “What’s happened?” became instantly recognisable due to its constant appearance beneath the images.
Reaction posts became increasingly common, with users joking that they could no longer open X without seeing Nigel Farage kicking somebody. Others compared the adverts to recurring nightmares or described them as the platform’s equivalent of an unstoppable boss battle.
Some users posted screen recordings showing multiple versions of the advertisement appearing within minutes of each other, while others created memes suggesting the campaign had become more famous than the product it was attempting to advertise.
