Bogdanoff Twins

About

Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff were French celebrities best known for producing the science fiction television series Temps X and their involvement in a theoretical physics dispute known as the Bogdanoff affair. On 4chan, the brothers are associated with a list of grandiose conspiracy theories known as the "Bogpill," which are often listed whenever someone asks for a "quick rundown" on the twins.

History

In 1976, the Bogdanoff brothers published the science fiction book Clefs pour la science-fiction. In the 1980s, the twins produced and hosted the popular science fiction series Temps X. Other shows the brothers have produced include Project X 13, Rayon X, Science X and Science 2.

Bogdanoff Affair

In 2002, University of Tours physicist Mx Niedermaier emailed University of Pittsburgh physicist Ted Newman claiming that the Bodanoff twins had spoofed their PhD theses. Rumors began circulating on Usenet that the twins deliberately orchestrated the hoax to bring attention to faults in the peer review system within the academic community.

Online Presence

On April 30th, 2015, Redditor Stunobo submitted a picture of the brothers titled "How do they think this is attractive" to /r/WTF,^[1] where it gained over 8,700 votes (85% upvoted) and 900 comments prior to being archived (shown below, left). On May 1st, Redditor ddoubles submitted several pictures showing the twins' progressive plastic surgeries to /r/WTF^[7] (shown below, right). Before the post was archived, it garnering more than 14,500 votes (91% upvoted) and 1,300 comments.

On April 4th, 2016, a post asking what viewers thought of the Bogdanoff twins was submitted to /pol/. On November 10th, a 4chan user submitted a thread asking about the Bogdanoff twins.^[2][3] On December 14th, a thread speculating about the Bodanoff twins "huge influence on French politics" was submitted to /pol/, in which a user posted pictures of the brothers before and after plastic surgery with the caption "Before /pol/ / After /pol/" (shown below).

On January 4th, 2017, Redditor AeroRandy submitted a post asking why the brothers were being "constantly posted on 4chan" to /r/OutOfTheLoop.^[5] On January 7th, an anonymous 4chan user submitted a thread asking if the Bogdanoff twins were "trying to channel meme magic into ascending to godhood with the Bogdanoff forced meme?" On January 14th, the /r/The_Bogdanoff^[4] subreddit was launched for discussions about the brothers. On January 18th, a 4chan user posted a "quick rundown" on the Bogadanoff twins, claiming they know aliens, have psychic abilities and will "guide humanity into a new age of wisdom, peace and love" (shown below). On January 24th, a similar list of conspiracy theories was submitted to a /qa/ (question & answer) thread asking for a "quick rundown" on the two brothers.^[6]

Death

On December 28th, 2021, French media reported^[8] that Grichka Bogdanoff died aged 72. On January 3rd, 2022, six days after Grichka's death was reported, Igor Bogdanoff died.^[9]

On December 15th, Grichka Bogdanoff was admitted to intensive care in a Paris hospital after contacting COVID-19, dying after spending several days a coma.^[10] Family of the twins did not report their official causes of death.^[11]
