Caitlin Reilly is a TikToker known for impressions of various characters in certain situations, her most popular character being the WASP Mom. The comedian first began posting to TikTok in February 2020, and has accumulated over 1.2 million subscribers and 21 million likes as of September 2020.[1]

Origin, Spread and Online History

On February 10th 2020, TikToker @itscaitlinhello posted her first TikTok video with the caption "MOUTH GIRL. #fyp #fypage #fypchallenge", mimicking a girl who is convinced that her mouth is her best feature. The video has garnered over 20,100 likes to date.[2] The account's popularity surged in June 2020, gaining over 300,000 followers in that month, and reaching 1 million followers by August 2020.[3] Caitlin has even made an appearance in a video on TikTok made by popular YouTube channel Vox.[4]

Concurrently, Caitlin's posts through her reddit account, /u/discowhale, gained traction on the popular subreddit r/TikTokCringe, with posts frequenting over 5,000 karma since April 2020. Her most popular post so far was submitted on May 5, 2020, titled "I hate these women and now I am these women", amassing over 37,500 votes and over 1,000 on r/TikTokCringe.[5]

Caitlin has also maintained a YouTube channel[6] with the same name. While the channel was started in 2012, its subscriber count grew exponentially in August 2020, jumping from 1,570 subscribers on July 31 to over 143,000 subscribers by October 9.[7] The channel currently has over 362,000 subscribers.

Personal Life

Caitlin is an actress who grew up in Los Angeles. In an interview with Hers Magazine regarding her inspiration for her "Karen"-like characters, she mentions "I grew up in an affluent area. So, I was definitely used to being around women like that. I feel like I just sort of grew up around it, like a lot of my mom’s friends were like that."[8]
