Carissa Codel is a newscaster and broadcast journalist on KOLR 10 and FOX 49 in Springfield, Missouri, who is known online for her behind-the-scenes and vlog-style content and a series of videos where she reads viewer hate and thirst comments in her newscaster voice. Many of the comments are compliments or insults about her figure, with some people online referring to her as the "thick newscaster" or "thicc." Codel garnered a significant following on sites including Instagram, TikTok and X / Twitter between 2019 and 2026, with a combined follower count of over 700,000 by January 2026.

History

Carissa Codel's earliest available content is a video posted on her YouTube[1] channel on December 13th, 2016. The video is a recording of a cheerleading meet at Blue Springs South High School in Missouri, where she grew up. Prior to this, Codel started her X / Twitter[2] page, @CarissaCodelTV, in 2015.

On June 15th, 2019, Codel started posting content on her Instagram[3] page, carissacodel.



On January 12th, 2024, Codel posted her first video on TikTok,[4] @carissacodel. The video is a behind-the-scenes recording in the "news live-drive car," where she reports on the news from the passenger seat of a car, garnering over 20,000 views in two years.

Reading Viewer Comments Series

On August 17th, 2025, Cordel posted a video on Instagram[5] in which she reads viewer hate comments on her videos, garnering over 26,000 likes in five months.

One of the most notable comments is "built for breeding," which has become a running meme among her fans and online followers.




Codel continued to post videos reading hate comments over the following months, becoming some of her most popular videos.

One of the most viral examples was uploaded to TikTok[6] on December 1st, 2025, garnering over 3.2 million views in two months.

On December 8th, 2025, Cordel appeared on Inside Edition to talk about her "reading hate comments" series and not letting internet comments bother you in general, garnering over 300,000 views on YouTube[7] in about two months.

Through the latter half of 2025, Carissa Cordel became notably popularized on a variety of subreddits.

For example, on December 18th, 2025, an image of her flexing her arm muscles was posted to the /r/moreplatesmoredates[8] subreddit to over 500 upvotes in two months.
