Send Me To Gary, I Want To Be With Gary is an exploitable image macro and reaction meme format using a scene from Rick and Morty in which the character Jerry forces Beth to aim a gun at his head while saying, "Send me to Gary, I want to be with Gary," attempting to get Beth to shoot him.

The scene originates from Rick and Morty season two, episode four, titled "Total Rickall." It first became the subject of memes as early as January 2020 on X / Twitter and spread over the following years. As a meme, the name "Gary" is often replaced with another person or character's name, using the phrasal template "Send Me To X, I Want To Be With X." The earliest known example of the meme reads, "Send me to Xxxtentacion, I want to be with Xxxtentacion."

Origin

On August 16th, 2015, season two, episode four of Rick and Morty, titled "Total Rickall," aired in the U.S.^[1] At one point in the episode, an alien parasite disguised as a character named Sleepy Gary, who has brainwashed Jerry into believing they are lovers, is killed. Jerry, distressed, forces his wife Beth to point a shotgun at his head and says, "Send me to Gary, I want to be with Gary," begging her to kill him.^[2]

On January 29th, 2020, X^[3] user @DeltaruneSusie posted a meme using a screenshot of Jerry with the shotgun to his head captioned, "Send me to xxxtentacion, I want to be with xxxtentacion." The post gained three likes in six years. This is the earliest known user to share the meme, although it is unconfirmed if it is the original.

On January 22nd, 2024, X^[4] user @CutePicsOfUzi posted a screenshot of a now-deleted repost of the "xxxtentacion" meme to the /r/cringetopia subreddit, garnering over 7,900 likes in two years.

On July 17th, 2025, Instagram^[5] user dickowensonline posted an edit of the meme about the death of David Lynch, who died earlier that year, garnering over 1,700 likes in nine months.

On March 24th, 2026, X^[6] user @Baldimoral posted a version of the meme replacing the subject with images of Baldi, garnering over 1,700 likes in three weeks.

On April 13th, X^[7] user @sieveiiz quoted a post announcing the closure of the mobile Rick and Morty game Pocket Mortys with a version of the meme referencing the game, garnering over 33,000 likes in a day.
