About
Slurp Juice is an NFT collection related to the Astro Ape NFT collection that allows owners to mint new Astro Ape NFTs. Their existence became widely known on Twitter after user @rarecandyio exasperatedly attempted to explain what they were to their followers, writing, "A lotta yall still dont get it. Ape holders can use multiple slurp juices on a single ape. So if you have 1 astro ape and 3 slurp juices you can create 3 new apes." The tweet was parodied on Twitter by users who found the name "slurp juices" ridiculous, transforming it into a copypasta in early May 2022.
Origin
Slurp Juices are a collection of NFT items related to the Astro Ape series of NFTs hosted on Rarecandy.io.[1] They are supplementary items to Astro Apes and when a person combines a "slurp juice" with an "Astro Ape," they are able to mint a new Astro Ape. On May 3rd, 2022, the Rare Candy IO Twitter account[2] attempted to explain the concept to its followers ahead of a minting event for Slurp Juices, writing, "a lotta yall still dont get it. ape holders can use multiple slurp juices on a single ape. so if you have 1 astro ape and 3 slurp juices you can create 3 new apes. Tonight's slurp juice mint event is essentially a minting event for both Lab Monkes and Special Forces." The tweet gained over 210 retweets, 400 quote tweets and 280 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below).
Spread
The tweet started going viral on the morning of May 4th, 2022, after several Twitter accounts quote-tweeted it as a copypasta. Some of the most liked early quote-tweets include posts by @SilvermanJacob[3] and @Slime_Golem,[4] gaining 430 and 52 retweets, as well as 3,900 and 258 likes, respectively, in two hours (shown below).
Parodies of the tweet followed shortly after. For example, Buzzfeed writer Katie Notopoulos[5] tweeted "30-50 slurp juices," referencing the 30-50 Feral Hogs meme, receiving 75 likes in roughly two hours (shown below, left). She also wrote a humorous piece on Buzzfeed[6] about the tweet. Twitter user @stepheniscowboy[7] posted a Seinfeld parody of the tweet, receiving over 20 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
On May 6th, Input Magazine published a piece about how RareCandy.io may be involved with what are described as "racist edgelord trolls," though the person behind RareCandy.io denies this.[8]
