About

Smash Ultimate Tier Lists refer to parodies of Tier Lists ranking the characters of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate by various qualities that often have nothing to do with their abilities as fighters.

Precursor

Prior to Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, similar parodies spread for other games in the Super Smash Brothers series such as Melee. For example, a tier list for Melee characters based on how well they're known outside of Smash appeared on Reddit on August 5th, 2016 (shown below, left). Another posted by Twitter user @_ClayPot used the Wii U roster to make a Who Says Fuck meme (shown below, right).

Smash mascots/Hardly known for their source games Niche characters with a separate fanbase but much more popular due to Smash Source games are well-known but characters usually introduced through smash Tertiary characters in well-known games (or main characters of less popular games) that have a dedicated Smash userbase Well-known characters that players use due to nostalgia/experie nce of their source games Your grandma knows these characters regularly says has sworn off saying f---, but said it at some point has not said f--- before, can if so desired has not said f--- before and will threaten you for saying it has not said f--- before and refuses to say it doesnt know what "f---" is legally cannot say f---

Origin

Smash Ultimate parody lists began appearing after the roster was announced in the June 12th, 2018 Everyone Is Here! Nintendo Direct. This was aided by a Tier List generator hosted on SSBWorld[1] that launched July 24th, 2018.[2]

Spread

Popular early examples include a tweet by @TheRealQNS who ranked the characters based on how well they'd be at babysitting, gaining over 2,500 retweets and 7,400 likes (shown below, left). Another by @OuendanL based on the film Monster House gained over 350 retweets and 790 likes (shown below, right).

Actual Parent Would be great at babysitting Would be okay at babysitting Would be mediocre at babysitting Would be horrible at babysitting Child Thinks the old dude from Monster House DID NOT f--- the house, has seen the movie Thinks he didn't f--- the house has Not seen the movie Thinks the old dude from Monster House f----- the house, has seen the movie Thinks he f----- the house, has Not seen the movie Has F----- The House seen the movie, but in the future and has yet to find out if he f---- the house doesn't know what f------ is kins the old dude kins the house

On January 3rd, 2019, NintendoLife[3] covered the spread of the parodies. Popular variations covered there include a list based on how the characters would pay at the end of a date (shown below, left). Another judged the characters based on "roundness."

Don't worry, I'll get the check o o "Let's split it 505/50" Silently pays for the tip "This was your idea, you pay for it!'" Eats the food Deadass leaves Very round Kinda round Has some round parts Not round Can become round if desired
