Chimptopia is an upcoming animated sitcom and web series created by 2D animator Robert Pagliaro. The unfinished series became the subject of mass scrutiny on X / Twitter following the release of an official Kickstarter parody promo in mid-June 2026, resulting in the cartoon garnering virality online.

History

On June 14th, 2026, X^[1] user @ToonHive posted the official Kickstarter promo parody trailer in the style of Tex Avery's classic Looney Tunes shorts for the animated sitcom Chimptopia by animator Robert Pagliaro. The video received over 11.8 million views and 6,910 likes in about two days.

The same account then followed up^[2] with the Kickstarter link for the project, which received over 4.5 million views and 540 likes in the same timeframe.

Online Presence

The controversial promo, which mocked Gameoverse, sparked massive backlash across the animation community on X / Twitter over the following days as it garnered attention.

On June 14th, 2026, X^[3] user @BluebriarArts criticized the promo for attacking another indie project, Gameoverse. The post received over 778,150 views and 37,000 likes in two days.

The same day, X^[4] user @NotJoshart posted a redraw of Thragg from Invincible, declaring war on behalf of Gameoverse. The post received over 275,650 views and 19,800 likes in two days.

Also on June 14th, 2026, X^[5] user @HyperJerk shared a BoJack Horseman clip that seemingly described the exact premise of Chimptopia. The post received over 239,770 views and 12,130 likes in two days.

Later that day, X^[6] user @JoshuaTookes posted an old Ty The Tasmanian Tiger commercial, comparing it to Chimptopia. The post received over 3 million views and likes in two days.

The situation continued to intensify throughout the day as X^[7] user @imkrisyim highlighted the creator’s alleged connection to controversial far-right figure Nick Fuentes. The post received over 767,000 views and 8,650 likes in two days. X users also pointed out that the landlord character, Chimp, very closely resembled racist caricatures of Indian men.

Later on June 14th, 2026, @ToonHive^[8] posted the creator’s apology addressing the backlash. The post received over 1.2 million views and 3,600 likes in two days.

The @ToonHive X^[9] account posted a follow-up statement regarding past merchandise work for Fuentes shortly after. The post received over 188,800 views and 460 likes in two days.

On June 15th, 2026, X^[10] user @VilyaVlopick posted art redesigning the Chimptopia characters as actual chimps. The post received over 1.65 million views and 33,350 likes in one day, with users commenting that the redesign is a vast improvement over the original concept.

The Kickstarter also drew comparisons to infamous campaigns from the past. On June 15th, X^[11] user @powcampsurvivor quoted the original Kickstarter link to jokingly "promote" the infamous All or Nothing Tumblr scam and series. The post received over 423,000 views and 17,000 likes in one day.
