About
Trash vs. Garbage is a reaction image that shows a bag of trash piled on some bins in an alleyway to the right of another pile of garbage collected in and around a rusty barrel, separated by a graphic reading "VS" as if they were fighting or competing against each other.
The reaction image started spreading online as early as November 2024 and is often used on sites like TikTok and X / Twitter. As a meme, it is used to comedically describe the subjects in a video or piece of content as a fight between trash and garbage, suggesting both options are bad.
There are several prevalent variations on the meme, including "Trash vs. Treasure," which replaces the garbage on the right side with an image of a treasure chest overflowing with gold coins.
Origin
Before the reaction image was popularized, YouTuber[1] MinuteEarth posted a video on August 23rd, 2013, that gained over 1.3 million views in 13 years titled "Trash vs. Garbage," explaining if there is a difference between the two.
