Tyler, The Creator's Cyber-Bullying Tweet refers to a tweet by rapper Tyler, the Creator, in which he states that cyberbullying isn't a real issue and can be solved by walking away from a computer screen. The tweet has inspired numerous parody examples and is often used as a copypasta.

Origin

On December 31st, 2012, Tyler, The Creator posted a tweet mocking those who consider cyberbullying a credible threat, suggesting that those who are being harassed online "just walk away from the screen" or "close their eyes" (shown below). Over the next five years, the tweet gathered upwards of 317,400 likes and 345,800 retweets.

On August 3rd, 2013, a screenshot of the tweet was submitted to the /r/OFWGKTA[4] subreddit, where it garnered more than 1,200 points (91% upvoted) and 75 comments prior to being archived.

On November 19th, 2014, the tweet was included in a listicle titled "20 Life Lessons We Learned From Tyler, the Creator's Twitter Feed" published on the pop culture news site Complex.[3] On October 17th, 2015, YouTuber xd uploaded a clip from the anime Gatchaman Crowds titled "Hahahahahahahaha How The Fuck Is Cyber Bullying Real," in which a character turns off her phone to demonstrate how to deal with online harassment (shown below).



On March 26th, 2016, the original tweet was reposted in the /r/copypasta[6] subreddit. On April 29th, the women's interest site Affinity[5] published an article titled "Why It Isn’t As Simple As 'Just Walk Away From The Screen'," which criticized dismissive attitudes towards cyberbullying and online harassment. On February 6th, 2017, the tweet was reposted to /r/copypasta by Redditor thusinmugs.
