You May Spank It, Once

You May Spank It, Once is an exploitable two-panel image series of a character viewed from behind, usually showing their buttocks. The first panel is subtitled with the character giving permission to spank them, but in the next panel, they raise their finger to gesture that they will only allow it once.

Origin

On October 17th, 1997, the animated adaptation of the Donkey Kong Country video game premiered in the United States.^[1] In the opening credits of the show, Donkey Kong can be seen sitting on a dock with his buttocks sticking out and then raising his one finger (shown below).^[3][5]

On November 11th, 2014, Facebook ^[1] DevinMinda posted a two-panel image of Donkey Kong from the Donkey Kong Country television series (shown below). In the first panel, Donkey Kong sits on a dock in the water with the subtitle "You may spank it." The following panel shows Donkey Kong sticking up one finger and the caption "once."

On December 26th, 2017, Tumblr ^[4] user frightguard posted the meme and received more than 100,000 notes in four months.

On January 4th, 2018, Tumblr^[8] user dvas-wife posted a photoshopped version of the image in which bubblewrap is edited onto Donkey Kong. The subtitle is also changed to read "You may pop it." The post (shown below, left) received more than 40 notes in four months.

Two months later, on February 24th, Twitter ^[6] user @R1PLEXA posted a variation of the meme in which the subtitle is edited to read "You may eat it," referencing the Eating Ass meme. The post (shown below, center) received more than 110 retweets and 900 likes in two months.

Several days later, on March 1st, Tumblr^[7] user wirtish posted a version in which the subtitle reads "PG-13 movies you may say fuck." The post (shown below, right) received more than 92,000 notes in a month and a half.
