On September 21st, 2020, the official YouTube^[1] channel for comedians Key and Peele's show posted the skit "The Funniest Kid in School," where a kid named Troy (Keegan-Michael Key) takes credit for Jackson's (Jordan Peele) jokes by repeating them slightly louder than him. The video gathered over 3 million views in five years.

The earliest known "You Will Never Be Troy" edit is a September 27th, 2025, TikTok^[6] by @ballregardles that gathered over 900,000 plays and 100,000 likes in two months.
