World-renowned musical artist Justin Bieber reportedly bought a Bored Ape NFT on Saturday. The Ape, which was bought for 500 ETH by a wallet that is named after Justin Bieber, was set up around the time that Bieber's own collaboration with the NFT project In-Betweeners was made, causing some to be skeptical of this over the top purchase.

As it currently stands, the 500 ETH selling price, approximately $1.3 million at the time of writing, would be the highest price paid for a single Bored Ape, and between four to five times the price of other Bored Apes bought by celebrities in recent months.

While the common thing in this situation is for the celebrity to be clowned on by anti-NFT social media, because of the monstrous price paid out by Bieber, he even had some people from within the NFT space scratching their heads about it. When it comes to NFTs, it is a commonly held belief that the rarer a trait is, which is something the NFT gains when it is minted, the more valuable it is.

Something that has a trait shared by 40 percent of the collection is worth less than something with a trait only 1 percent of the collection has, and Bieber's Bored Ape's lowest trait percentage is 6 percent, the "sadness" trait, with over 558 other Bored Apes having that trait. This means that not only are people right-clicking to save and posting the NFT, but others are saying it wasn't worth even half of what was paid for it, due to its bad trait rolls.
