About

Blockatiel refers to a photograph of a screaming cockatiel bird that is used online to censor inappropriate images.

Origin

The earliest known use of the photograph was posted by Dark Circuit[1] user paris tuna "on March 18th, 2007. The post is in the form of a Demotivational Poster featuring a screaming cockatiel with the text "Blockatiel: PLEEZ MOEV BIRD!1" In over a decade, the image (shown below) has been viewed more than 2,000 times.

On February 1st, 2008, YouTuber [2] blockatiel posted a video featuring the bird blocking images on the screen. The video (shown below) received more than 15,000 views in 10 years.



On August 9th, 2008, DeviantArt [3] user joemerchant2006 posted an image of a woman standing next to a horse with the blockatiel covering her nipple. The caption of the image, another Demotivation Post, read, "No pornz for you." The post (shown below, right) received more than 1,600 views in nine years.

The following year, on June 21, 2009, Urban Dictionary [4] user Cockatiel Owner defined the bird as "The unsung cockatiel hero against vulgar,pornographic,and unsightly images.Blockatiels block the offending images with their faces to save the innocence of the viewer." The definition (shown below, right) received more than 42 upvotes in nine years.
