Ekaterina Karaglanova’s Murder refers to the murder of 24-year-old Ekaterina Karaglanova, a Russian Instagram influencer and qualified doctor, known for her luxurious travel posts. Karaglanova's boyfriend later confessed to her killing.

Background

On July 26th, 2019, Karaglanova's parents, who had been unable to reach their daughter ahead of her 25th birthday trip to the Netherlands, discovered Ekatertina's body in a suitcase in her apartment with her throat slit. Variety^[1] reports, "there was no sign that Karaglanova struggled before her death and no weapon was found at the crime scene."

Maxim Gareyev's Confession

On July 30th, 2019, Russia's Investigative Committee released a video of Maxim Gareyev confessing to her murder, stating that he stabbed her "at least five times in the neck and chest" (shown below). Gareyev was an ex-boyfriend of the victim, stating that he had killed her because he felt she "repeatedly insulted and humiliated" him.

He continued, "She told me that I was ugly and that even plastic [surgery] would not help me," he said, saying she had told him it would take a year for him to save enough money for them to meet again.

On August 1st, 2019, the BBC^[2] noted "The circumstances of the confession, and whether the suspect had a lawyer present, are not clear from the video".
