Goebbels Chin Edits are a series of exploitable photoshops featuring Nazi Germany's Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels in a portrait photograph that shows him from the side. Originally being only a semi-subtle change to Goebbels' chin to make it seem very recessed, the photo spawned multiple parodic edits in which Goebbels' chin and the rest of his face take various shapes and distortions.

Origin

The date the photograph portrait was taken is unknown. It was found around 1946, in the headquarters of the city of Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate region, southwest Germany^[1] (shown below, left). On April 27th, 2020, the first Goebbels edit that showed him with a recessed chin was posted on the 4chan board /his/ with the caption "this was 10/10 in the third reich"^[2] (shown below, right).

Spread

The original edit has been posted more than 230 times on various 4chan boards within 1 year.^[3][4] On May 16th, 2020, a distorted edit of Goebbels' portrait set in a Sigismund Steinhäuser format was posted on r/DerScheisser by Reddit user Cryx-Nu-Hatta, captioned "got them good master race genes"^[5] (shown below, left). The post garnered over 1,000 upvotes in 1 year. On July 10th, 2020, a Chad edit was posted on 4chan's /fit/ board^[6] (shown below, right).

On April 20th, 2021, a History Meme featuring the Chad Goebbels edit and the original photograph was posted on r/HistoryMemes by user Argent_Dusk, captioned "Well they didn't make it to a 1000 years but they were fairly close to a 1000 weeks"^[7] (shown below). The post received over 9,600 upvotes in 4 months.
