The Jamaican River Raft Video, also known as the The Martha Brae Special, refers to an explicit viral video of a female tourist in Jamaica almost being penetrated by a male river raft guide (on the Martha Brae river) until she tells him, "Not in, sir," prompting him to at least, "Get a plastic bag or something," to make a makeshift condom. The video originally went viral on the website formerly known as Twitter in August 2022. Roughly a year later, in August 2023, the video resurfaced, prompting reactions and memes related to the woman's "plastic bag" request.

Origin

Sometime in late August 2022, a video surfaced online in which a woman was on a bamboo raft in the Martha Brae river in Jamaica where a male guide was massaging her with his penis out, about to penetrate her. She told the man "Not in, sir," and then said, "Get a plastic bag or something. I'm serious."

According to a September 1st, 2022, article from the Jamaica Observer,^[1] the video originally went viral on Twitter. The raft company that the guide was a part of, River Raft Ltd, issued a statement in the article, saying it was "appalled by video and has advised that its company is 'in no way associated' with the footage."

Some of the only still-accessible August 2022 content about the video was uploaded to TikTok, the earliest being a video posted by TikToker^[2] @sashcobain on August 31st, 2022, gaining over 35,200 plays in one years (shown below, left). On September 1st, 2022, TikToker^[3] @donbonez1 posted a sketch about the video, using the original video's audio. The TikTok received roughly 67,400 plays in one year (shown below, right).

Going into September 2022, usage of the phrase "Martha Brae special" surfaced on the website formerly known as Twitter.^[4] Despite a 2022 origin and other TikTok^[5] videos being posted in the timeframe, the video didn't gain increased interest unitl August 2023, when X^[6] user @marl0stanfield_ posted the original video, writing, "Couple of Bob Marley shots have her in this position," gaining roughly 554,400 views in six days (censored screenshot shown below).

The X post quickly gained quote retweets and replies on the day of, such as a reply posted by X^[7] user @glory_manz on August 12th, reading, "I’m willing to bet she’s from Atlanta," gaining over 200 likes in six days (shown below).
