The phrase was popularized on TikTok in late January and early February 2024 and gained viral spread to other social media platforms that month.

The exact origins of the catchphrase are unknown. The earliest known use of the phrase was posted by X[1] user @meownieI on January 27th, 2024, posting, "Its ok nath get in here *spreads folds* 🫱(())🫲" over an image of a shirtless character, garnering no interactions in six days.

Spread

On January 28th, 2024, X[2] user @elisl1ces posted, "ok good enough *spreads folds* 🫱(( ))🫲," garnering around 50 likes in five days. On January 29th, TikToker[3] @thatso_raeben posted a video reacting to a commenter who posted it on one of their videos, garnering over 17,000 views in four days (shown below, left). On January 30th, TikToker[4] @outlandishcookie posted a similar video that gained over 15,000 views in three days (shown below, right).

On February 1st, X[5] user @biforvi posted a screenshot of an interaction between TikTok commenters where the phrase is used, along with the phrase, "WOAHH ALRIGHTT NOW LET'S CALM DOWN 🫸))((🫷" garnering over 111,000 likes in a day (shown below).
