Origin

The phrase "No Airbags, We Die Like Real Men" has appeared on the internet before in some viral images of bumper stickers.^[4] However, it was not until August 2016 that the phrase sparked a snowclone. On August 7th, 2016, an image of a car with a bumper sticker that reads "No Airbag, We Die Like Men" was posted to Imgur.^[3] On August 10th, 2016, Tumblr user dreamjerky^[1] posted the image, shown below, in a post that has gained over 122,000 notes as of December 16th, 2016.

In the coming months, the image inspired text posts that turned "No Airbag, We die Like Men" into a snowclone in which "airbag" and "die" are replaced. One of the more popular examples was posted by grec1a^[2] on November 20th, 2016, that read "No proofreading, we die like men" and amassed over 76,000 notes. A Tumblr account devoted to reposting examples of the snowclone, wedielikemensuggestions,^[5] appeared on August 14th, 2016.
