![Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog Development files reveal that Super Mario Kart used to contain "Grass That Doesn't Slow You Down", which defeats the entire purpose of offroad grass in a racing game. The developers clearly had a low opinion of it, calling it "unnessesaly" [sic] in the code before removing it. Development files for Super Mario Kart dated less than a year before release include a tile that uses the grass graphic, but has road physics; in other words, it is "Grass That Doesn't Slow You Down". As the entire point of the distinction between grass and road is to encourage driving on the road by making grass slow karts down, this tile was seemingly held by the developers in low regard.
