Werewolves are born or bitten. It is a recessive trait that is only guaranteed when both parents are werewolves, so sometimes single parents are faced with a difficult decision. Once a werewolf has bitten someone, whether intentionally or not, it is their responsibility to assist with the recovery and teach them. Shifting can be done faster and more comfortably with repetition. A werewolf's instincts may be more difficult to control, especially when shifted, so they must learn restraint. A young or new werewolf will have trouble resisting the urge to chase something that is running from them, attack something that looks like prey, and sometimes flee from loud or startling noises. Regardless of the inner conflict, werewolves retain their intelligence equally in both forms.
