The problem is with how much closer to reality we are getting with newer and more powerful graphics, or at least that perceived closeness.

When games first made the leap to 3D everything was blocky, that's just what 3D was and gamers accepted that and were able to look beyond that limitation to get drawn in.

With modern games we're very close to reality, so any minor disconnection between the game and reality becomes more apparent. So things like Aliasing (e.g it look pixelated) becomes that more prominent.
