Well, I recently was talking to some people, one thing lead to another, and I ended up getting a chance to talk to a member of the old 4chan moderation team. (inb4 "My uncle works at Nintendo!" If you think I'm bullshiting, I understand, you can ignore me. Make of this what you will.) So I talked with him a bit over Skype, and he told me a few things that, after getting his OK. I'll pass on to you First thing, that Id/ mod? Everything he said was completely true. However, the guy I talked to thinks it was too different gods posing as one. To clarify, everything they said was true,but it was two different guys using proxies to keep the heat off of each other. You might be thinking "Well why would they care about that?" Because some of the gods weren't completely anonymous, they talked and socialized, and personal information got passed around. They honestly fear that if they were outed then some of their information would 'leak out' as a way of revenge. It's happened before where a mod doesn't like another and passes information out to the userbase, who find more and then freak the f--- out. Thus, D gods 1 & 2 used proxies and decided to impersonate one single person as a safety precaution so some SJW mod couldn't track them down easily and leak information as revenge Second thing he told me is that m00tykins honestly doesn't care about 4chan. Not even in the 'He hates it" way. m00tykins wants to keep the site running, because both it made him famous and prints money from the thousands of /b/tards who don't know what adblock is. However, m00tykins also hates the stigma 4chan has, and the fact that he can't branch out to something more 'normal. Not successfully at least. To sum up, he wants to make the next Reddit. So naturally, he's conflicted. Keeping 4chan makes him relevant and prints money, but it doesn't let him do stuff he wants to and makes him look like a retard. He's just tired of it, and if there was a way he could silently close everything and still get money, he would. Because of this, he has pretty much left 4chan to the devices of the gods. Guy talked to said he thinks m00tykins gave the statement he did because the gods pestered him to. As mainly focused on one of the slower boards, he didn't need to worry about the SJWshit that affected other gods and determined whether they got the boot or not. On the surface, they just seemed like any other mod, but it was their actions that outed them. Someone was banned for saying "N-----". When someone asked the mod who did it why, they reasoned that "Keep /pol/ in /pol", and a few of the newer gods agreed with him. In short, they were subtle, but f------ extreme. They knew if they unloaded a bunch of s--- at once, they'd get outed and booted. So they just took small victories, and collected them up into a snowball. Soon justifications grew into "Well we banned a guy before for doing X, therefore we're good with Y" after Dashcon the of gods. The guy I talked to was NOT tossed out, since he had remained indifferent during that time. He didn't actively take a side, but since he was a mod who The guy told me he quit back in early August, way before D Mod 1 posted their side of the story. He quit because the new gods insufferable.
