![THE "LAND MASS" CONVENIENTLY LOCATED BETWEEN NEW ORLEANS AND MOBILE! Allow me to share with you some little known facts about this LAND MASS" that those of us who liv here like to call "MISSISSIPPI." The 32nd largest U.S. state in the Union a population of nearly nillion, making it the 31st most populous U.S. state. Residents here are called Mississippians. Our majo industries include fishing, electronic and transportation equipment, OIL, farming, and textiles. We produce the majority of ALL FARM RAISED catfish consumed in the U.S. today. We stand by our motto, "By Valor and Arms!" On December 10, 1817 we were admitted to the Union as the 20th State of America. Our name is taken from the Chippev ord "misi-ziibi" meaning "GREAT RIVER." We are tl Birthplace of the Blues. Our native children include the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, known as the "Father of Country Music," Elvis Presley, Leontyne Price, B.B. King, Charlie Pride, Faith Hill, Bo Didle the alternative rock band 3 Doors Down, LeAnn Rimes, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Buffett, David Banner, Afroman-and lest we forget the First Lady of Country Music, Ms. Tammy Wynette. We also write here in this LAND MASS. Our state has produced such great authors as William Faulkner, John Grisham, Charlaine Harris, Thomas Harris, Kathryn Stockett, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams, and Richard Wright to nam few. Oh, but WAIT, we aren't finished yet. Other notable characters that have been blessed enough to call Miss sippi home include Brett Favre, Al Jefferson, Archie Manning, Deuce McAllister, Steve McNair, Travis Outlaw, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Morgan Freeman, Jim Henson, James Earl Jones, Gerald McRaney, Parker Posey, Sela Ward, and, YES, even Oprah Winfrey! But more than that, when you look at us and think that we are backwards, we are also the home of Civil Rights Leaders such as Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, Aaron Henry, and Anne Moody live a slower life here in the South. We may be plain' and we may speak slower than you do only have to say what is on our mind ONCE! But more than all e do not need for others to take note of our accomplishments, v this, we are a proud people take pride in our accomplishments but we are not vain. We take care of our own. Ironically, we also ll of these things listed, the people of our great state are the most charitable in the world. We giv our neighbors, our churches, our friends and, yes, even our need, our people are there to help .
