Unlike any other spinosaurid found, it had survived into the upper Maastrichtian of the Cretaceous period, about 72.1 to 66 million years ago. This genus was discovered shortly before the American Civil War and like it's more famous cousin, Spinosaurus, it's remains were destroyed in the war Montanaspinus is thought to be one of the largest theropods from the Hell Creek formation. Estimates published in 2015, suggest that it was roughly 13.3-19 meters (30.8-38.7 feet) in length and up to 5.5 tonnes, making it a very robust spinosaurid. New fossils discovered in 2015 suggest that Montanaspinus, and other spinosaurids, were bipedal. Much like every other theropod known. The skull of Montanaspinus was long and narrow, similar to that of a crocodile. Scientists believe that Montanaspinus was mainly piscivorous. With only a fraction of a sail discovered, we can assume that Montanaspinus looked vaguely similar to its relative, Ichthyovenator Description [edit] Help About Wikipedia Community portal Recent changes Contact page Not much is known about Montanaspinus, as it is a new discovery. Most scientists use this information to reject the often depicted "knuckle-walking Spinosaurus."
