GENDER REPRESENTATION IN GAMES, BY GENRE Anita Sarkeesian says games don't feature women in significant roles nearly enough. She implies (right out says a few times) that women are just there for decoration! Her videos show, where they aren't deliberately misleading the viewer, a marked superficiality that proves Sarkeesian doesn't know her subject matter well enough to act as an expert authority. The following is my experience, by genre, of gender representation in games. Since I've been gaming since color PCs were cutting edge, I might know what I'm talking about! Shooters: She may have a point here, for single player. Mostly male protagonists, mainly because alot of shooters are military games and there are few female front line soldiers in real life. Multiplayer, not so much of a point here. Many shooters allow female avatars. MMO/RPGs: Well Anita, have you EVER played an RPG? Except for rare exceptions, RPGs are a shining example of gender equality. Male, female, your stats are the same. This pic was chosen to ruffle SJW jimmies! Neener, neener, precious snowflakes!! む MOBAs: By the nature of the genre, female heroes HAVE TO be equal to the male heroes! Lora Croft is a badass, but a scene lasting a few seconds where it seems she may get r---- was all that SJWs and feminists could talk about. Bayonetta is a powerful, sexy, and strong-willed character, but because she is "too sexv" she is sexist and feminists like Anita hate her. She can never be rescued by anyone (Damsel in Distress) nor the love interest of anyone (Women as Reward). Oh, almost forgot, she can't be too tough or look too much like a man either (Man with Boobs) So what we need is a totally average looking, non-sexy and non-sexualized, female character that is not too tough and doesn't dress in either typical female or typical male clothing, who cannot be evil, who cannot have magical powers, who cannot be exotic who has to be the lead while not anyone's lover interest, and who is never too tough but at the same time displays no weakness requires no help, and is never captured. Because every single female character reflects all women everywhere The horrible truth is you and Sarkeesian want to craft a box into which you can force every female character into.
