![ilikehotwings42 86 points 1 day ago I used to do content moderation for Xbox Live. We have full access to all the messages you send and receive. We can look at them anytime we want and dont need anyone's permission. When I would play games at home and people would be using mods on games they weren't supposed to I'd write the GT down and look into them at work. Look through their messages and confirm they were selling mods. Most people dont really seem to care about this which is fine, but think that if Xbox has all this info on you, address, credit card, messages, games played, for how long, etc... and they are just a gaming company how much more doesAmazon, FB or google have on you. You think they really dont read private messages? Of course they do, Xbox does with non reason and doesnt need your permission.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/masonry/001/635/854/1ea.png)

![PopularElevator2 84 points 1 day ago More and more plane components are being designed, developed and tested overseas by people who never graduate college. The quality of these components are putting people at risk. I was a software engineer in aerospace. One year upper management decided to cut costs and fire all of the higher up engineers and send the jobs to India. It was fine for a while, but management kept cutting jobs and finding cheaper and cheaper labor overseas. We inspected one of the engines that were "tested" and developed in India. It worked fine until we started pushing it and it blew up and caught on fire. Another story we had an electrical engineer testing a PCB that was developed, manufactured and tested overseas. The damn board blew up in his face and he had to be taken to the hospital.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/masonry/001/635/853/a27.png)

![simjanes2k 65 points 1 day ago I'm late to the party, but I've got a good one. I ran computer forensics in the 90s, and had a client who needed data recovery for discovery in the lawsuit against the tobacco companies. ![kinarevex 339 points 1 day ago I quit thus my nda expired. I did debt collection. SUPER SHADY. The company was screwing people out of hundreds of dollars in both canada and the us. We were essentially ruining peoples credit while doing it. Management didn't see a problem. We were breaking so many collection laws. We were falsely reporting to the credit bureau. We were making deals to not report bad credit if the client paid more than they owed. We were calling 8-15 times a day. We were ignoring cease n desist verbals and writtens. It was such a s--- show. On top of that, we were not allowed to go bathroom or drink water outside of our breaks. The nda "stopped us from reporting" these instances. There was so much worse and all for minimum salary. My cousin was a superviser and i said a big f--- you and quit. Of course i reported it but nothing came of it. I work at "home furnishing specialist" call center now and i am over the moon in love with my job, my salary, my benefits. When we had our coffee breaks, people would always stop on the sidewalk and ask whose house this is. My friends tirelessly prodded for me to disclose, but I never did! There used to be a lot of hidden voice commands in the system. We had to take a lot of them out over time, but that one is still in there. Edit: A couple people have asked me who Robert is. He is one of the software engineers working on the voice remote system. As a proof of concept early on he put that in, and just never removed it. Edit 2: Some people are asking for another one.
