IX - The Hermit

There comes a point in life when we begin to question the obvious. We sense that there is a deeper reality and begin to search for it. This is mainly a solitary quest because answers do not lie in the external world, but in ourselves. The hermit on Card 9 reminds us of Diogenes, the Greek ascetic who is said to have gone out with a lantern in hand to search for an honest man. Diogenes is a symbol of the search for truth that the Hermit hopes to uncover by stripping away all diversions.

Lucatiel would have been a cool choice too IMO.

XI - Strength

The Fume Knight’s true name is Raime, known as a rebel or traitor to King Vendrick. Raime was an agile swordsman. He and Velstadt, the Royal Aegis were known as the left and right arms of King Vendrick. That was until their wills clashed. Raime and Velstadt fought and Raime was defeated, then deemed a traitor. After his defeat at the hands of Velstadt, Raime came to Brume Tower in search of greater strength. There, Raime had the ability to expunge or remove Nadalia from Brume Tower, but instead he chose to live in the company of Nadalia, Bride of Ash likely because he had become infatuated with her. Raime is a skilled swordsman able to wield the Fume Ultragreatsword in one hand and a straightsword in the other.

The Nameless King is a tragic story of sacrifice for a greater goal. What the King’s ultimate goal was, is not certain, however, the fact that the Nameless King would abandon his rightful kingdom of Anor Londo in order to pursue the battlefield alongside the dragons speaks volumes of his character.

Sadly, despite his combat prowess, both the Nameless King and his loyal Stormdrake are felled by the Ashen One at Archdragon peak. Nevertheless, the Nameless King is a shining example of victory through conquest, discipline, and determination.

II - The High Priestess

The nature of the Fire Keepers is mysterious. They are able to use the souls harvested by the Ashen One to tap into their bodies and minds and provide them with new strength. They guard the bonfire in the Firelink shrine which separates the Ashen One from his quest in the rest of the realm, and are always vigilant and supportive of the decisions made by the character.
