They weren't trying to do something sincere and stand-alone that would still be interesting with or without being considered controversial at the time (as with Postal 1), nor did they try to use the edge as a vehicle for satirizing the "games make you violent" crowd or the post-9/11 insanity in America, like what Postal 2 did by making the most offensive and violent game possible, but then also never force you to partake in any of the violence and allow you to complete the entire game non-lethally. Instead Postal 3/4 is just a constant stream of low-brow "humor" (ha ha, d----! ha ha, c----! ha ha, jews!) for the pure sake of it. In Postal 1 and 2 the edge is the means, in 3/4 it is the end goal. Being edgy for the sake of being edgy just wastes everyone's time, because it becomes clear to everyone that you're not saying anything with it and are just desperate for attention. It can work in an age where media gets constantly censored or is obsessed with decorum, but we're way past that being a thing anymore. Adult cartoons filled with toilet humor are practically the norm on TV and Netflix. A few months ago a game called https://store.steampowered.com/app/1853200/TYRONE_vs_COPS/ was released on Steam, but it inspired no public outrage because nobody really cared, or because people saw it for being the shallow attention-seeking outragebait that it is and decided to ignore it. This is also why I don't get the suggestions in this thread that Postal 4 should've been more edgy by making fun of Jews and trannies and n------ and vaxxers and whatnot. If that's all it offered, people would be left wondering what the point of it all is. At best the game would come off as simple attention-w------, at worst it'd come off as just aimless nihilistic hate with only the thinnest veneer of being 'satirical'.
