Even in the 1978 movie, they make fun of him (blue pajamas! shiny red boots!): "Truth, Justice, and the American way" is SUPPOSED to sound old-fashioned even in 78(Lois mocks him for saying it in her interview). Superman is supposed to realize how dorky we think he is, and care for us anyway. That's being a hero Not caring how uncool you seem to other people is the definition of cool. It is that self confidence that is really meant to inspire all of humanity. It's like when we are kids, we think our parents are schmucks, until one day we see our Mom or Dad screaming at one of our teachers, or the bully's parents, in defense of US. All of a sudden you don't care how terrible their music is, or how square "Wars do not make one great... their clothes are-they are gods.
