As unbelievable as it is that people are still posting Harambe memes in 2022, it's even more surprising that the latest high-profile bit of Harambe-posting came from baseball's Cleveland Guardians.
But truly, Guardians vs. Angels has us thinking about our guardian angel tonight. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/XBlIh47Diy

Ahead of the Guardians' game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim earlier this week, the Guardians tweeted, "Guardians vs. Angels has us thinking about our guardian angel tonight" along with an image of the Angels' stadium with Harambe in the clouds and scoreboards.
Harambe, as you may recall, was shot in the Cincinnati Zoo, and the city's sports teams have, at least jokingly, already claimed the late gorilla as their guiding spirit. Cleveland coming in to claim Harambe as its own is like Utica claiming (famously Brooklyn-born rapper) Jay-Z as its own because he technically grew up in the state of New York.
The tweet amounted to sacrilege for Cincinnati-born memers and sports fans, who rightfully took to Twitter to chastise the Guardians for their heresy.
Ummmm Harambe was a Cincinnatian not a Clevelander. Stop trying to claim him

Harambe is a Cincinnati native… he wouldn’t be caught dead in Cleveland

Get your own gorilla. Maybe this guy pic.twitter.com/HGAt4OuwHe

The audacity. Add this to the long list of reasons why I strongly dislike Cleveland https://t.co/Mtlvg1VtzB

For what it's worth, the Guardians lost their game against the Angels that night by a score of 4-1, making it twice now that an Ohio team has invoked Harambe ahead of a sporting match before ultimately losing.
