Dear White People Showrunner Jaclyn Moore Boycotts Netflix Over Dave Chappelle Jokes In Comedy Special
The firestorm caused by Dave Chappelle's final comedy special on Netflix shows no signs of slowing down, as a new layer of gasoline has been poured on the situation. Jaclyn Moore, the showrunner for the Netflix comedy show Dear White People, a transgender white female, has decided to boycott Netflix over their continued allowance of Chappelle and his alleged jokes against transgender people.
I told the story of my transition for
netflix</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/Most?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">
most's Pride week. It's a network that's been my home on @DearWhitePeople. I've loved working there.
I will not work with them as long as they continue to put out and profit from blatantly and dangerously transphobic content.— Jaclyn Moore (@JaclynPMoore) October 7, 2021
While recently under fire himself for the transgender jokes in the special, many on social media pointed to this as justification and proving Chappelle's point right.
A white person was running Dear White People and is about to boycott the platform over a black comic. This was literally the point of his jokes. https://t.co/bNNXMu29hA

The executive producer of Dear White People is a white person. And now she’s attacking a Black person. Giving Dave Chappelle a lot of material! https://t.co/2lJXH8UqoX

Wait a fuckin minute. The show “dear white people”, which is supposedly about black ppl’s struggles & has a 90s soundtrack has a lead producer that is non-black?
& wants to boycott a black man? https://t.co/q2w3xTAgsZ— Dump Truck (@ta__mka) October 8, 2021
While the intended effect may have been to rally people against Chappelle or Netflix, the opposite also happened across the internet among a mix of supporters and detractors. The news of the showrunner for a Black-experience-driven drama being a white female led to many confused people on Twitter, as well as some feeling vindicated for never liking the show in the first place. The tweet by Variety that first broke the story was also noted as being "ratioed" by some because of a Twitter user pointing out this fact.
I’m just confused how a white woman is a show runner for “Dear White People” ……. Lol

As expected, there were plenty that didn't really have a dog in the fight and chose to just stand on the sidelines and make memes while enjoying the fighting between either side of the viral debate. Memes and old images from XXXtentacion and Rachel Dolezal were brought back for this moment, among many others.

Moore did make another tweet to try and address her role with the show, saying that she was only the showrunner for the fourth season and the only white writer.
I was hired to write on Dear White People by Justin Simien before season one. After season 3 I was promoted by Justin to run the show with him for season 4. I was the show's only white writer.
