Yesterday the Epic Games Store started giving away copies of Grand Theft Auto V, one of the most popular games of its generation and the latest installment of Rockstar's insanely popular Grand Theft Auto series. Despite being seven-years-old and the second best-selling video game of all time, the game brought in so many people wishing to claim a free copy that the gaming store crashed, Internet providers registered huge spikes in their traffic and Twitter timelines got filled with memes.
The giveaway started on May 14th and it didn't take long for the Epic Games Store to go down under the massive influx of visitors, taking quite a while to load for many and spewing out 500 and 402 errors for even more.
We are currently experiencing high traffic on the Epic Games Store.
We are aware that users may be encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, or launcher crashing at this time and we are actively working to scale. We'll provide an update as soon as we can.— Epic Games Store (@EpicGames) May 14, 2020
The number of people simultaneously downloading the game caused massive spikes in traffic for Internet providers across the globe.

The news of the game being up for grabs spread like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook, with memes soon following suit. Many Fs were pressed for those who bought the game days before the giveaway, cashing out 30 green ones only to find out they could have gotten it for free.

Imagine having bought GTA V on a PS3/360, then buying it on the next gen consoles, then deciding to switch to PC full time, and buying it on Steam… pic.twitter.com/SV79BXyvJR

More Fs were pressed for PCs which will in no way be able to satisfy GTA 5's hardware requirements.

Still, many are celebrating the insane STONKS they got from patiently waiting. Seven years? Absolutely worth it.
