Salt Bae Returns To Social Media Limelight After Picture Of Exorbitant Bill At His Restaurant Goes Viral
And now for our yearly check-in on Salt Bae: Nusret Gökçe, the restauranteur who went viral in 2017 for his flamboyant way of seasoning steak, is trending again on social media after a picture of a bill at his new Nusr-Et location in London dropped the jaws of humble diners.
The bill, which came out to a stunning £1,812 (the equivalent of over $2,400), was shared by Twitter user @jjamz_. It appears @jjamz_ wasn't the one who racked up the bill, but it's unclear who shared it first.

There's a lot to gawk at here, from the £11 Red Bulls to the £9 cokes, but the real heart-stopper is the £630 (or $863) "Giant Tomahawk." The marquee item is a gold-crusted tomahawk steak, a signature dish at all of Gökçe's restaurants.
The bill was widely mocked online, as social media seemed to agree that no food item, particularly widely available drinks like Red Bull and Coca-cola, should cost as much as it does at Nusr-et. There was also a little bit of admiration for Gökçe parlaying his fifteen minutes of fame into a career of selling nearly-thousand-dollar steaks.
A man who has created an entire brand and a chain of restaurants from internet hype charges people £11 for a Red Bull. Colour me shocked! pic.twitter.com/3WBS8CbegX

This is the second time in two years Salt Bae has returned to public consciousness. Last year, he was at the center of a bizarre viral video where a woman twerked for him and drew the ire of her apparent boyfriend, right before his Boston Nusr-Et location got shut down.
