Spider-Fans, Rejoice! Spider-Man Returning To MCU
Our long, national nightmare is over.
After more than a month of sleepless nights, Marvel fans can sleep easy again: Spider-Man is returning to the MCU.
Disney and Sony have reached a deal in regards to Spider-Man's appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier today, the two companies announced that they would work together on a third installment of the Spider-Man: Homecoming saga, with Marvel super-producer Kevin Feige returning to the Spider-verse, as well. The deal also includes allowances for Spidey to pop up in at least one more MCU crossover film, so worry not, true believers.
"I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it," said Kevin Feige in a statement. "Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold."
In case you've been offline since August, the internet exploded in August after news broke that the licensing deal between Sony and Disney surrounding Spider-Man had fall apart. Marvel, looking to renegotiate the deal, pushed for a 50/50 split regarding future Spidey solo films. Of course, being the holder of the rights to Web-head's film career, Sony walked away from the table, taking one of the MCU's most popular hero and Marvel's signature character with it.
The new deal boosts Disney's share of the profits to 25% of the next film's grosses and merchandising rights, according to Variety.
For their part, Sony seems excited to get back to work on making Spider-Man films again.
"This is terrific," said Spider-Man: Far From Home producer Amy Pascal. "Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home, and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes."
They're not the only ones who are happy to get back to making hundreds of millions of dollars in the Spider-Man movie business. Far From Home-stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, who play Spider-Man and MJ in the films, respectively, responded accordingly.

The sequel to Far From Home has been announced as well, swinging into theaters on July 26th, 2021. In the meantime, fans are celebrating the return of their "Peter Tingle" the only way they know how: memes.
