The Story Of The Thanksgiving Grandma Is Coming To Netflix
The most wholesome story of social media is coming to Netflix.
Yesterday, Jamal Hinton, better known as the man at the center of the Thanksgiving Grandma story, announced that the tale of his unlikely friendship with Wanda and Lonnie Dench will become a Netflix original movie.
I am very excited to announce our new partnership with Netflix. We thank every single one of you for your love and support in our journey the last 6 years. We can’t wait to tell our story on the big screen! 🎥🍾 pic.twitter.com/0heCmEWMDM

The production makes sense, considering the story of Hinton and Dench is basically already a Hallmark movie. In 2016, Hinton received a text message from a grandma (Wanda Dench) inviting who she believed to be her grandson over to Thanksgiving dinner. After explaining that he was not Dench's grandson, Hinton gamely asked if he could still accept the invitation. Dench just as gamely said, "Of course!"
Hinton attended Dench's Thanksgiving dinner that year and formed an unlikely friendship with her and her husband, resulting in six consecutive Thanksgiving meetups and regular hangouts throughout the year.
The film will be called The Thanksgiving Text. Abdul Williams will be in charge of the screenplay, and no director or cast is attached to the film yet.
"Can't wait to see this story brought to life!" Netflix posted on Twitter. "Isn't it already real life?" wrote Twitter user @BVLDERVS.
