Twitter Users Get New Hot Take Over Which They Can Roast Their July 4th Fixins: 'Grilling Is Bad'
There's nothing as American as dumping on American pastimes for rage clicks, and as we head into July 4th weekend, Insider's Josh Barro courted the internet's hate after unleashing a blazing hot take: Grilling Is Bad.
Your grill is filthy, has poor temperature control, and for some idiot reason has the heating element below the food so fat drips into it and catches fire. There’s a better way to cook: In your kitchen. https://t.co/gvolhBOhRu

Grilling food is of course a July 4th tradition in many American households, as the family gathers around the grill for burgers, hot dogs, and cheap American beer.
Barro's argument boils down to the fact that grilling is a much less sanitary and less efficient means of cooking. He cites that grills are difficult to clean and covered with burnt food, that they make it difficult to control heat and lead to over or undercooked food, and any food cooked on a grill can be much more effectively and sanitarily cooked in a kitchen. It's certainly hyperbolic and a little tongue in cheek, going well beyond a lukewarm "hot dogs are bad" or "beer is bad" and cuts right to the soul of America. It's a masterclass in hate-farming.
As intended, the piece—or at least, Barro's tweet summarizing it—attracted a wave of hate on social media, as many people just want to grill for god's sake.
I feel like I’m a professional at ignoring horrible takes. But I cannot ignore this. Maybe the worst take I’ve ever seen -- on any subject. Grilling is awesome. Go away, kitchen guy. https://t.co/7w2bXTJIpc

Yes, I totally get it! When I also suck at something I don’t want anyone else doing it. https://t.co/4qmE2bqC5T

Grilling is fun and delicious and not nearly as difficult as all the books and articles seem to want to make it out to be, but listen if you think grilling sucks that's FINE. There's no need to poop out some smug paywalled listicle about it. You can just not grill.

Several folks were able to roll with the punches, and others were just in awe at Barro's bravado.
grilling is very important because it gives men something to stand around, look at, and talk about in a social situation where they'd otherwise have to ask people questions about themselves and then listen to the answers to those questions

"Grilling is bad" is such an amazing trollbait opinion I'm literally nauseous with jealousy. I've spent my career on bad ideas, and now I'm Salieri hearing Requiem for first time, just weeping.

Congratulations to Barro, for his masterful troll job. May you have a brave, comfortable 4th of July indoors.
