In North Carolina, a state law banned people from using the bathroom of the gender that's not on their birth certificate, and in Mississippi another law allowed people to discriminate against homosexuals if their religious beliefs told them it was ok. Both laws caused outcries online, with many public companies withdrawing business from North Carolina and politicians speaking out.
