I've always been of the mind that security and freedom are in inverse proportion to each other. What most societies do is try and find some magical sweetspot that allows for the highest quantity of both, but once they are in equilibrium and you start pushing one up the other is going to go down.

You want to know why ?
Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

Listen when you have has much has data that surveillance government program do you can not only make mass behaviour prediction but you can indirectly or directly influence people.
It’s not only about privacy it’s also about letting free will what free will is, a random unorganized mess that will with a lot of time began to structure or de-structure depending about the culture and lots of other factor.
An single entity must not decided what things are to be, whatever part of the world you’re from.

The problem is not only in the US, France has made is own LEGAL surveillance system (voted march 2015) they can now use there so call black box that will monitor the french internet under the justification of “terrorist” funny thing it was voted not long after the events of charlie hebdo and even more funny that charlie hebdo promoted freedom of expression.
Also France just voted international surveillance legal for them.
