I looked up the article, because as is, it is an extremely egregious oversight. Right now the article reads Solo: A Star Wars Story Has Franchise’s First Main Female Droid, which I assume is correct if she is a actually a main character. With as much expanded universe materiel that exists, I would be pretty surprised if there wasn't at least one other piece of media that has a female droid as a main character, even if it was just a female personality astromech or something. However, I'm pretty sure they mean just the films, in which case yes, none of the female personality dorids in the films would ever be considered a main charterer.
Now, I did check to see if an archived version of this page exists, and yes it was original published saying Solo: A Star Wars Story Reveals Franchise’s First Female Droid. This image does clearly point out that there are several exceptions to this in the films, not just expanded universe, both of which make this statement false.
