Say what you want about LegalEagle, but Shapiro is still a tool. You can't simply boil everything down to a body count. While only a few people died on Jan. 6, 2020, the ramifications of the event are still significant. A bunch of people stormed the Capitol, destroying property, attacking police officers, and threatening elected representatives all for the sake of the worst sore loser in the history of America, who instead of taking the "L" like a man concocted a batshit conspiracy theory that he was robbed of his rightful place as ruler and therefore justified in attempting to overturn the results of the election by any means necessary. The attack would not have happened if Donnie and his allies didn't invent and spread the Big Lie.
Democracy is on the brink because of the ego of an elderly man-child, and the people responsible are mostly getting away with it. The GOP continues to spread the Big Lie as justification for newer voting restrictions. They casually downplay the insurrection because of the poor optics for their side, their failure to condemn the attack serving to normalize such violence. These are people that have never truly believed in representative democracy, and are getting increasingly bold in trying to undermine it.
The body count might have been less, but the insurrection was part of a larger phenomenon that's arguably more threatening to America than Imperial Japan or Al-Qaeda ever were. Neither of them managed to destroy our democracy, after all.
Terrible comparison considering the capitol HAS been "ransacked" before. We got a whole wikipedia list of times it has happened. It was arguably mild considering there were no tanks involved this time.
