This image is based on a painting called Ivan the Terrible and his Son Ivan by Ilya Repin.

The story behind it goes Ivan’s son was yelling at him for making his third wife miscarry (the first two wives were sent to convents by Ivan for being barren). The argument turned to a disagreement about a military campaign, and Ivan struck his son with a rod, mortally wounding him.

Knowing that, it was a good pick for showing the absolute mauling the VDV have received so far in this conflict and where the blame for that lies.
