Bourdain f----- up badsometimes but he took his cultural role as a TV host of shows ostensibly about the vicarious enjoyment of lavish vacations and tourism advertising and tried to make them about something else: Empathy. Beyond exploring culture and food Bourdain wanted his audience to connect with the people he interviewed and see the humanity of his subjects.
