Hell, it brought together gamers from sites that usually f------ hate each other. Usually we get all p----- off, vent, then zerg rush off back to our own little lives And so its easy to feel like maybe, just maybe the sites were right when they say we are a tiny, tiny, insignificant movement. We are just a couple hundred whackjobs who think we are bigger because we are in our own little echo chamber. And its easy to feel like we really are alone and losing Then, something happened. The 3 major professional victims actually ran to the press They got noticed by the big media sites and they started to run hit pieces on us Now l initially felt down about it, like maybe we were going to get steam rolled. But then I realized something The games media felt so threatened by us they had to go running to the mainstream media The same media that for years have painted us as violent sociopathss They had no problem tainting gamers as a whole as misogynists to their long time enemy... And that tells me one thing They're scared They are so terrified of us they will go to the extreme to try to shut us down. You don't do that for just a couple hundred whackjobs Going to the mainstream media is basically their version of the nuclear option. So by doing it they confirmed that we are bigger than they thought. We are much larger, much louder, much more of an actual threat then they ever thought we would be and that has them terrified. They did all they could to shut us up, make us feel like s---, make us feel alone and turn on each other and everything they tried has failed. Now they are up against a faceless horde that they can not stop They are losing revenue. Think about that. Big, multi million/billion dollar corporations do not want to have anything to do with them so are refusing to pay them. And their profit margins were already super thin. I think we can expect a few sites begging for donations just to pay the server fees soon. And all these professional victims are going to have to stock up on their patreon money because once the media gets bored of them, its going to just be them and us. And I doubt we will be in the mood to fund these parasites They are lashing out and revealing just how hateful they are They are desperate to assign us "leaders" so they can have someone to target and character assassinate but we keep refusing to give them a target to shoot. For all their bluff and bluster about how unimportant we are, they have revealed that we truty are a force to be reckoned with and they are terrified of us so much they do not know what else to do. This wasn't the first time Sarkeesian receved a direct, specific threat before a speaking engagement recently on Twiter she said she had gone on stage at least three bmes after receiving specific death threats but she canceled because the Utah polce couldnt provide the secunity she requested (due to the state's concealed carry law, which is a whole other cuitural dlusterfuck). Anita is willing to be a target, but she didn't want the audience to be targets as well When this news broke something happened everyone on Twitter blamed GamerGate the harassment campaign organized under a hashmag and run ofT the kiddie-pom disseminating website 4chan for being too extreme. While the threatening letter never mentioned GamerGate It was pretty clear that this lunatic was on their wavelength Despite protestations that GamerGate is about ethics in journalism (we'll get to why thats hardcore bulshit irs been mosty a force for hounding women, especialy Sarkeesian and indie developer Zoe Quinn, with developer Brianna Wu becoming the latest women run out of her home by specific violent threats from GamerGaters The Sarkeesian threat name-dropped Marc Lépine, who was the Elott Rodger of Montreal, murdering 14 women in a seltl-described battle aganst feminism-the same enemy that GamerGate says it fights. This is the world of GamerGate, sick, pathetic men who are so threatened by women that they must etner murder them or terrorize them into silence It's important, before we get to how GamerGate has already lost, to explain how GamerGate has already proven itself a fraud As it mobilizes seething, 24-hour hate mob against women who are not journalists in the name of jourmalistic ethics it has unerty ignored a truly disturbing breach of journalistic ethics. As Whedon says terrorism isn' about doing violence, it's about using the spectre of violence to get your way. But the reality is that they're not ashamed of their toxic origins. They own it. They are toxic people, and Im glad they're sticking with GamerGate.
