They were technically proficient in their craft. They both invented countless cinematography techniques that are still in use today. Whether or not you like their film, they were truly technical masters of the craft of film making. The anti-GG crowd are blinded by hipsterism. They think someone with a cuitural studies degree (and no technical skills) can jump in and make games with the best of them. This simply isn't true. Games are at least as technical a craft, if not more so than film-making.
