I'm sure you've seen the tweets, so I won't bother to share screenshots but I can if needed. I'm a father of a son who is dealing with bullying in school and whose friends are also dealing with it. I was also bullied and have worked very hard to educate and support my son about dealing with this. I am also a gamer, and have been for a long time. I'm amazed that any sort of media outlet would employ someone with such insensitive views about a very real, and dangerous issue that our children are facing. Do you, or Sam have kids? Can you possibly imagine them coming home from school, tears in their eyes, afraid to go back, or worse yet telling you that they want to die because they don't have any friends? I've faced those things, and I'm appalled that your staff is so disgustingly dismissive of such a thing Not only does Sam go on about his stance but he even brags that he received a raise for this comment. I hope that he is just a lying braggart, but if not I can't imagine the depraved indifference to children and the issue of suicide that your staff seems to embrace. Does Gawker have the integrity to take a stance against Sam's dangerous comments? Do you even consider that this is essentially a call for young people to continue an activity that is responsible for more suicide among young people than any other factor? Here is some data for your apparently willfully ignorant staff: The statistics on bullying and suicide are alarming: . Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it. Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University A study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying . 10 to 14 year old girls may be at even higher risk for suicide, according to the study above According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying I've heard that Gawker has dismissed this as just a joke, he wasn't serious' but in all honesty is anyone that naive? This is no more a joke than the threats of violence against women around the world, or the death threats sent to politicians for just being politicians.
