Gamer Gate Terminology Gamer Gate is a movement started by gamers to fight corruption in the industry and to combat censorship by people with etreme ideologies. It has been going on for over a month now and any newcommer will likely get confused by the amount of terms being thrown around. This guide will clear things up. ate/GG A movement started and composed of gamers seeking to fight corruption and censorship in gaming The Fine Young Capitalists/TFYC THE FIN OUNG TFYC started a 'charity' allowing women to pitch their ideas for video games with the winner being chosen online and the profits going to charity Zoe Quinn attempted to sabotauge the program leading 4chan'sv/and /pol/to donate Vivian James After raising $17,000, TFYC allowed 4chan to create a character that would appear in the winning game. They created vivian James, an average girl who loves video games and hates corruption. Her name is a play on 'vidya gaems Literally Who A word used to identify indie dev Zoe Quinn who, like the two bullets that started WW! caused the initial uproar leading to Gamer Gate by sleeping with gaming journalists for good publicity. GG now views her as irrelevant and tries to distance itself from her Literally Who 2 a word used to describe feminist critic Anita Sarkeesian who unlike Zoe Quinn has absolutely no relation to GamerGate. She however does attempt to put herself in the spotlight and is seen as the figure head for the SJW censors. Half-Chan The name given to 4Chan after its founder Moot banned discussion on GG along with several users. Many former posters have migrated to 8Chan When people attempt to hijack threads or try to derail the movement ("We can't win." etc), people call them shills and warn users not to reply to them or fall for their tricks. "Why don't we just Spy (TeamFortress2) SIW/SJH short for Social Justice Warrior and sometimes Social Justice Hivemind. The term describes many first world feminists who seek out what they consider oppresson and wish to censor things they don't like Operation Disrepectful Nod A campaign to email the advertisers of gaming journalist sites that have insulted gamers and supports those who harrass gamers. The name is based on a tweet by one of Zoe's white knights. Part of the tweet Burgers and Fries/Five Guys FIVE GUYS BURGER5 and FRIES Back during the initial controversy, Youtube user Internet Aristocrat made a video about the Zoe Quinn scandal. The Five Guys joke is a reference to the fact she slept with five men for good publicity. Internet Aristocrat/MundaneMatt Youtube users who have been big supporters of the GamerGate movement. Their videos essentially laid the groundwork for the movement. MundaneMatt's icon Another supporter of the Gamer Gate movement He can be found on Twitter giving updates on his investigations into video game journalism and the corruption he has uncovered. This lady is your FRIEND Christina Sommers Of Factual Feminism. She made a video titled "Are Video Games Sexist?" She concluded that they aren't and won the support of GamerGate. Video game journalists have branded her as a conservative despite the fact she's a registered Democrat. They also spelled her name wrong in their articles. Christina Sommers She fights for FREEDOM #NotYourShield A twitter campaign encouraging women, minorities, and others who social justice warriors claim to fight for to come out and express their disapproval of video game journalists and the social justice warriors. Many have attempted to claim it's all a bunch of white men from 4chan making all the tweets. Author has 304 answers and 740.1K answer views. 5y Not that I care that much either way, but it did expose a lot of corrupt game developers and game journalists. X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
