Operation Kitona

Also known as the The Kabarebe Blitz, Operation Kitona was the opening move of the Second Congo War where a joint force of Rwandan and Ugandan soldiers led by James Kabarebe hijacked commercial airliners and flew them directly into the DRoC's (Democratic Republic of the Congo, not to be confused with The Congo) main airbase and over ran it.

These events occurred between 4 August 1998 – 30 August 1998

Within a few days of landing, the force of originally 3000 men where backed up by 2000 Congolese army rebels that gave the force access to Tanks and AA cannons.

This force of 5000 managed to defeat the remaining loyal Congolese forces, capture the DRoC's two main ports, the Inga dams (Which provided 40% of the power for the country) and had cut-off the capital of Kinshasa from the rest of the country.

If it were not for the military intervention of Zimbabwe and Angola, it is highly likely that the DRoC would of had to surrender and become occupied by Rwanda and Uganda.
