Unlike the case of lutetium hydride, these experiments shouldn't be all that challenging for other groups to reproduce. A lot of great materials synthesis work is done in Korea. If a time traveler from the future told me that room temperature superconductivity would be discovered by a random group in Korea, I would say, yeah, that sounds plausible. Also, the data don't look outlandish, though I'm not an expert in these particular techniques, and I've only skimmed the paper so far. If I wanted to be critical, I would say that the magnetic susceptibility measurements aren't gorgeous, and I can't tell what configuration they used for transport. Still, it does seem to be a superconductivity- or-fraud-choose-one situation. It's difficult to learn about the authors. I hadn't heard about them prior to this, and I don't see much of a publication record. The English abstract of their Korean language paper (published April 30th) comes across as naive to say the least. Unlike the case of lutetium hydride, these experiments shouldn't be all that challenging for other groups to reproduce. A lot of great materials synthesis work is done in Korea. If a time traveler from the future told me that room temperature superconductivity would be discovered by a random group in Korea, I would say, yeah, that sounds plausible. Also, the data don't look outlandish, though I'm not an expert in these particular techniques, and I've only skimmed the paper so far. If I wanted to be critical, I would say that the magnetic susceptibility measurements aren't gorgeous, and I can't tell what configuration they used for transport. Still, it does seem to be a superconductivity- or-fraud-choose-one situation. It's difficult to learn about the authors. I hadn't heard about them prior to this, and I don't see much of a publication record. The English abstract of their Korean language paper (published April 30th) comes across as naive to say the least.
