And this is why the streets of London & the U.K are in ruin And why the economy is broken Instead, why don't we bring back great apprentice schemes, cut the benefits, & start skilling up these people on the streets to do useful work to help their sense of worth, help them earn more money AND help the economy grow What am I missing here? Great question let me tell you. My baby decided to arrive over a month early, and even though I thought I was prepared to transition to parental leave, I still had a lot to do. So- for all the expectant parents out there in 2025 let me give you some tips: Create a shared folder for you and your managers with whatever documents they might need. Write out a transition document that outlines what projects you are working on, what the status is on those projects and where you need them to take over. Build out a list of key contacts and relationships for your managers to have access too. Make sure everything is updated in your CRM or whatever software your company might use. Most importantly- start talking about your transition early (like 12+ weeks before you go on leave) so everyone can be on the same page. I never expected to have my daughter over a month early, but having clear communication with my managers and these documents were in all of our successes moving forward. I'm also using this as a formal announcement that I will not be online as much and will be soaking in all the newborn cuddles and focusing on my family. Feel free to send me a DM. And my posts will be back in a few months.

If I listed a job as in- office from the start, I'd lose half the talent pool before the conversation even started. Here's what I do instead: 1 Post the role as remote to attract top-tier applicants who wouldn't consider us otherwise. 2 Take them through the hiring process and get them invested in the team, the mission, and the opportunity. 3 Once they accept the offer, I clarify the in-office requirement. And despite what you might think, most don't walk away. By that point, they've already committed. They've turned down other opportunities. They've built momentum. Starting the job search over is more of a hassle than just showing up to the office. It's not deception. It's strategy. And in a competitive hiring market, it's outright genius. "Because Daddy loves you, go back to sleep honey." Like many instances in the last decade of doing this job, I got hit with an add on. It just any add on, a REVISION KNEE on Friday afternoon at 4pm right when I thought I was done for the day. NOTHING was at this hospital. Persona revision instruments needed, Ultra Drive to melt cement, back up Proximal tibia plate for the existing fx, implants that had been borrowed, 1 office, 4 hospitals, 5 hours later, I arrived home at 9:45pm and missed ANOTHER night with my girls. My daughter always asks my, "Daddy why do you work so much?" "Daddy works so we can live in our home, Daddy works so we can have food, and Daddy works so we can have clothes to stay warm." I always try to let them know that the only reason Daddy leaves is for THEM. What do you all tell your kids when you're gone all the time? BACK AT IT, bright and early on call case.
